I Am Looking For Comments Censored By Matzav About the Ban on VIN

I am looking for comments offered to Matzav.com in their article,Harry Maryles, Have You No Shame? by Rabbi Gavriel Rivlin. The article is a rant defending the kol koreh against VosIzNeias (VIN). I am interested in showing the kind of perfectly reasonable respectful comments that they routinely censor.  So the ground rules are: Don’t submit it here unless you tried to submit it there.

All of you out there, keep a copy of anything you submit (and try to record date and time). I have been doing it for a while and keep doing it. Periodically I check back to find which one’s made it through. I even experiment with taming them a little.

Anyways, readers start sending them in. I want to show the world what is excluded. Then others can make their own judgments about whether the moderation is justifiable or just self-serving.

Can you idiots not think for yourselves?

When rabbonim care more about money and kavod then about the safety of our children…

When rabbonim insist on sweeping things under the rug, instead of saying “yes, we have a problem, and here is how we fix it” AND then do something meaningful…

When rabbonim speak out against those “frum” people who do horrible things, instead of falling all over themselves to cover it up…

When rabbonim support victims of wrongdoing, instead of those that commit the crimes…

When rabbonim care more about their flock, instead of their own reputation….

THEN, you can all scream about VIN telling the truth without the rose colored glasses you all seem to possess.

But until that time, I will continue to read R’ Harry, VIN, Yerachmiel, UOJ, and all the rest who obviously truly love their fellow yidden and true yiddishkeit, yet acknowledge that we have a lot of changing to do and are brave enough to shine a light on the many issues in the community that need fixing.

The rest of you keep drinking your kool-aide while you watch your kind of frumkeit implode from the inside out.

Any publicity is good publicity. VIN and HM will have more visitors as a result of this controversy.

  3. Apparently Golding (RCCS) pulled out of VIN. My RSS reader has this from Matzav and then it disappeared.

” “In the past, RCCS, the Rofeh Cholim Cancer Society has utilized the Vos Iz Neias web site as one of the mediums used to garner and generate funds necessary to help subsidize health insurance premiums for hundreds of cancer-stricken patients, annually, in our community. After a personal conversation with the RCCS Rabbinical Chairman, the Novominsker Rebbe shlit”a, […]”

I thought it was the Gedolim’s task to denounce the shortcomings of their flock.

Apparently, I was mistaken. It is obviously the task of the non-jewish press, as the author states here.

But then, how come the Gedolim publish a Kol Koreh like the one banning Vos Is neias, if it is not their task to denounce what’s wrong?

There is something I do not really understand in this ordeal:

I thought the rabbis banned all Internet anyway.
Last summer, they banned chareidi websites in general. So why bother banning individual websites?

  6. The Al Jazeerists at Matzav outdid themselves with their hypocrisy today. Only months after their shameful article shambling Rabbi Dr. Lander after his death, they have the chutzpah to criticize VIN for posting about Eli Weinstein’s arrest. In their sick and perverted world, Weinstein, Martin Grossman, SMR and Yisroel Wallis are tzadikim while Rabbi Dr. Lander is a rasha. In their warped minds, their is no such problem as child sexual abuse in the Orthodox community as they have never reported about it. NOT ONCE! Just like when Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was asked about gays in his country, he replied, “We don’t have this phenomenon in our country!” As long as the perps wear a beard and hat, they will forever be protected by the Al Jazeerists. Chas Veshalom that the only news blogs available to us will be Matzav and YWN! These sites are simply propaganda tools for Niederman and Perlow who have partnered with Vito Lopez to continue to muzzle the victims of abuse and to suppress the truth. VIN poses an immediate threat that, if they truly pursued it, can expose their corruption for all to see.

  7. This is a little off topic- but I have been saving this for a while. At one point there was a plea bargain of a sex abuser and the comments went wild with the usual rationales and denials all on behalf of the abuser. So rather coyly, I stuck this in, naturally saving a copy of my prose.

I forget what pseudonym I used. Anyways here it is.

We at the ACLU are encouraged by the attitude of the comments on this blog. Many of you are aware that we must be vigilant in protecting the rights of defendants such as the right to see the evidence and to have an attorney and to not be tortured into confessing.

I must mention in passing that unfortunately I see no indications that the Rabbi had any of his rights violated. On the whole the system worked as it should. He wisely chose a plea bargain given the strength of the DA’s case. The DA decided to save resources and secured the agreement of the family that was afraid of re-traumatizing the kids with a trial.

Nevertheless, the convict will benefit from our vigilant protection of the rights of prisoners as well. Even if you are guilty of child molesting we will work to protect you from yourself being abused in jail as well as having certain other rights including freedom of religion and the right to get visits from a chaplain and to some contact with family and other outsiders.

    Please consider joining the ACLU

I guess you have all the signatures on the KolKoreh giving a hechsher to this hypocrytical piece of loshon hora, or very likely motzei shem ra?
Dear Matzav please look in the mirror when you ridicule VIN.

To me it seems the more you go on about this the more you show an agenda. Go to R’ Berel wine’s site, & see how he explainds bans is Jewish history, it is a knowen fact the more you ban something the more people are curious & check it out.
As far as I know all those who officially signed have also banned internet altogether including Matzav.com, I don’t see the difference. Unless you are telling me that the ban was a hechsher on Matzav & Yeshiva World TLS, Yudels Failed moshiach & all the others. It was definatly not.
I feel your pushing this ban, is sending more traffic to VIN than before.
I also wonder if VIN is our biggest problem, like R’ Elyashuv told Amnon Y that he wouldn’t sign his kol koreh against the singers, because Klal Yisroel is facing bigger problems.
There are no signatures on the paper did Matzav call any of the signees to check they signed?
    I heard from an out of town Rov, that a local Menahel called on them, to say he had seen the ban in the newspaper, & the gadol answered yes I was shown the paper, I also just saw it. {meaning the first he knew his name was on the ban was from the paper.}
I know you may censor my comment, but please check, with the Rabbonim who signed afterall there are no signatures.

It is a lie to write “Maryles has also previously called for Rubashkin and other Frum Jews to rot in jail.” Here are some excerpts from what Rabbi Maryles has written on this topic:

“Most people who read this blog know how condemning I have been of Mr. Rubashkin for his misdeeds. Most people are also aware that I felt the sentence he received for his crime was way out of proportion to his crime.”

  10. Posted on behalf of Mark Meyer Appel:SHAME ON YOU RABBI RIVLIN

we all know that the ban on vos is neis is about one thing and one thing only.his coverage of a trend of sex abuse in the CHAREDI COMMUNITY.i think his coverage was fair as i was even upset he did not write about the Boro Park event by theJewish Board of that was attended bt many rabbonim.
    we advocates are now beginning to write off theese rabbonim as infidels that do not give a damm about our kids being molested;
TALK IS CHEAP while the noviminsker rebbe cries at the convention for 3 minutes about how much he cares and he does….he still can not find time to distrbute packets of information thas his own moetses approved to be sent to yeshivas,HE THEN HAD RABBI TWERSKY WATER DOWN HIS REMARKS IN A LETTER TO THE EDITOR OF THE JEWISH PRESS,,,,, perfidy it is’
and in case you think i am a rebel i devoted my whole life to help mosdos hatora including satmar.
you rivlin and ure rabbis will go down in history as destroyers of yiddishkeit in america as the lubavitcher rebbee called them machrevai torah.if they really care let them approve fingerprinting in yeshiva staff and raise monies for aguda backed groups like our our place mask sacred lives i allready contributed my humble share and saw rabbi zweibel appear and pretend it was his doing
rabbi rivlin let us debate on zev brenner sat nite THE COMMUNITY DOES NOT HAVE ANY RESPECT NOR DO THEY CARE ABOUT A BLACMAILING SCHEME OF REPORTING THE TRUTH
what a sad day in jewry it is.

we will prevail with our mission withe help of our rebona shel olim

  11. I posted the following comment. I wasn’t trying to criticize, though I obviously disagreed with R.Rivlin. In my naievete I thought providing some documentation is a step forward.Let the public look at the facts and let the public judge the quality of VIN. My post was rejected.

“I have a simple request. There has been no documentation of these claims against VIN. Would Rabbi Rivlin or anyone, perhaps the askanim involved in the azhara, put up a list of the particular news items that are found to be so objectionable by these many distinguished rabbanim and rosh yeshivas? The date and the title is more than enough. And it need not be every single article. A decent sample of 20-30 articles would be adequate.
If everyone could only see with their own eyes “the sipurim memushchusim, metooavim vegeruim, shahoo malai tumah vezuhama venivul peh” etc, etc. as the gedolim said explicitly in their warning about the sakana of this VIN web site, all would become clear and the controversy would disappear. Is this too much to ask?”

I do not entirely understand why the Rabbanim pronounced the ban on Vos iz neias.

Do you have any explanation for it?

In the meantime, the ban itself has caused a lot of lashon hara and nivul pe, for example on this blog, Matzav.

I am a bit worried about the fate of truth in the hareidi world.

The hareidi newspaper in our town constantly suppresses information about important topics discussed in the hareidi world of this town. On some topics, it gives extremely biased information. On some topics, it is not ready to correct outright wrong information.

I saw a similar tendency in other hareidi newspapers and also on hareidi newssites.

So on the one had, I have a problem of getting correct information on certain topics (e.g. the herem of one person or boycot of one shop in our town), that would make full transparence and allow me to decided how to act.

On the other hand, this shortage of transparent informations worries me for the hareidi world. Judaism claims to be a religion of truth. So I cannot understand how this is compatible with hiding the truth.

The issue with the KOL KOREH is not the gedilim that signed on it. The issue is that we let ASKONIM that are from the bottom of the barrel go and sell lies to our GEDOLIM, they pressure them and try to manipulate them. We have to stop the ASKONIM of doing that, because they are the ones that think they know better then our GEDOLIM.

Thank you for your comment! It has been added to the moderation queue and will be published here if approved by the webmaster.

    • Shaya,

I agree about the problem of asknonim who try to manipulate rabbonim. But I disagree with you when you suggest that there is no problem with those who signed the ban. One expects talmidei chachamim to do chakirah about the metsius (clarifying investigation of the facts). The minimum requirement is listening to both sides. They did not do it. It is like dealing with a din torah by only listening to one side. L’halachah, a dayan in a din torah is not even allowed to listen to one side while the other is not present.

I know someone who was involved in a din torah where they selected the Debrecziner Rav z’l, to rule. This man showed up on time at the Rav’s apartment but the other party was not there yet. The Debrecziner Rav let him in without a word or gesture and left the room without saying a word. This is how talmidei chachamim behave.

  18. Why is there no cheirem on Matzav & the Yated it claims to be a talis shekuloi techeiles, it is full of sheker & one sided stories, & a baal machloikes , time to ban it & all those assosiated withit.
BTW please don’t ban it, it may give it more business.

  23. OIF LETZ asked me to post this on his behalf. A little off topic but related. It relates to the recent attack by Rabbi Miller, Rosh Kollel Toronto on Rabbi Michael Broyde, Bes Din of America

    5. Comment from Oif Letz

Rav Miller has called a talmid chuchum an apikores because he notes a minority opinion and uses it not to pasken to uncover hair but to be melamed zchus on those who do.

Rav Broyde is an important figure in the Bes Din of America which handles more gittin than any other orthodox group.

Oiy Lanu that a rosh kollel can so easily stir machlokes. I think the centrist orthodox should just give up expecting respectful treatment from the heimish world. They should refuse to hire their rabbonim, shcohtim and so on.

I think rav Miller needs to publicly beg mechila from Rav Broyde.
