The latest such scandal involves one Rabbi Yoseph “Yossi” Ungar, Learning Rebbe at @CampKaylie, is alleged to have sexually abused multiple boys in his 1st grade class at a New York school. He is still employed at the camp, which begins Monday, 6/27. Netanel Zellis-Paley has done research and brought this matter to light on his Twitter account, @WordPaley
Camp Kaylie is operated by Ohel Children’s Home and Family Services (@OhelFamily) an agency with a long sordid history of protecting abusers. They are now the subject of multiple lawsuits for this conduct.
Rabbi Yosef Blau, Mashgiach Ruchani (Spiritual Advisor) at Rabbi Isaac Echanan Theological Seminary of Yeshiva University has informed Ohel of his knowledge of credible allegations against Rabbi Ungar. They haven’t bothered to answer him.
Here is the letter he put out in public after his private efforts failed (I have confirmed the authenticity of the letter in private communications with Rabbi Blau). Hopefully this will put an end to Ohel’s scandalous negligent approach to child safety. (This letter first appeared in a tweet by Netanel this motzai shabbos.
UPDATE (Sun 6/26/22) Since I posted yesterday, the open letter by Rabbi Blau being posted online accomplished what he was not able to accomplish in private communications with them. The camp is not going to have Yossi Ungar working there this summer. The moral of the story remains, the camp is not trustworthy and only acts under external exposure. Stay tuned for more about this.
