A little over five years ago on 2/24/11 I broke this story about Weberman. After a tumultuous trial, covered by all the major national and international media, he was convicted on 59 counts and sentenced to 103 years. He is now in jail and will probably die there. His arrest was not news, but I was the first to identify his role in the Williamsburg Modesty Committee the day after his arrest. It was that role that gave him cover and access to his victims and made it possible for him to intimidate them.

At the time I posted I had no idea of the extent his misconduct under the cover of his modesty committee. It involved dozens of victims. Nor did I know how much it would consume my blogging through his trial. It provoked major public demonstrations against him, something unprecedented. He was the first Haredi abuse trial where there was massive courtroom attendance by supporters of the victim. I am very proud of my extensive blogging including some of the best pieces I wrote and some superb guest posts. See especially, She Knew She Was in Trouble When Weberman Closed the Bedroom Door , Who Will Watch the Watchers?, An Introduction to the Nechemya Weberman Trial for Those New To the Case on the Eve of the Trial,  Reflections on the Weberman Trial at the End of Its First Five Days, and How an Entire Community Of Sheep Were Deceived By Weberman! – Guest Post by Pearl Engelman.

According to the NY Post, Nechemya Weberman was arraigned last night on charges of  raping a 12 year old girl.  Weberman is one of the most active members of the Williamsburg Vaad Hatzniyus (modesty committee). This makes you wonder about our so-called modesty guardians and zealots.

Shimon Weiser is another proud Williamsburg modesty zealot who has taken on the task of censoring others. His dishonest tactics include using the name Rabbi Binyomin Brown when he calls around to harass those advertising in Vos Iz Neies (VIN), the orthodox news web site which he was instrumental in banning.

David Niederman is the most important Satmar Williamsburg power broker. Niederman is very close to Nechemya Weberman and others in the Williamsburg Vaad Hatznius. He, along with the Vaad Hatznius allowed Rabbi Reichman to continue teaching at Satmar in spite of persuasive allegations that Reichman molested boys in the Satmar yeshiva, United Talmudical Academy (UTA). Shimon Weiser’s brother, Moshe Weiser, is one of the men Niederman uses to liaison between the Williamsburg Hasidic community and the police. Moshe Weiser was one of the founders of the Williamsburg Shomrim patrol service.

Nechemya Weberman, Moshe Weiser, Shimon Weiser and David Niederman are all part of a circle of tznius zealots who preach stricter standards of sexual modesty  and advocate banning VIN because it reports on convicted sex offenders. At the same time these tznius zealot are busy covering up sex abuse in their own backyard. They are a bunch of hypocrites. Weiser and his gang should stop promoting censorship in the name of modesty and concentrate on keeping their own Williamsburg  zealots on the straight and narrow. Continue reading

ChaptzemNisht Rebbe’s Chanukah Message on Lashon Horah Mehudar (Satire)

This post is from 2009. Enjoy! In English the title of the post would translate loosely as, “The Don’tCatch’Em Rabbi’s Chanukah Message about Very Scrupulously Refraining from Gossip.”

Prison 1Rabossai (Gentlemen), Because of our great sins we are in exile. We are too far from hashem (G-d) and too close to each other in Otisville Correctional Institution. Some say nisht geferlich (not terrible) because there are separate litvish and chasidish  minyanim (prayer groups). But what good does it do to have a Hasidic minyan (prayer quorum) when fights break out every time someone shouts yechi (the Chabad phrase proclaiming their late Rebbe, the messiah). But a yid (Jew) has to rejoice and bring simchah (joy) into the world. Yes, yavanim (Hellenists) brought avodah zorah (idol worship) into the har habayis (temple mount), but we triumphed and expelled them.  Nowadays we are also afflicted by our new Greeks who endanger the spiritual health of our people by driving Jews into jails. I want to talk about the three sins that cause this terrible situation: lashon horah (gossip), mesirah (informing), and neglect of pidyon shvuyim (redeeming captives). If every yid (Jew) in the world would follow these Jewish principles this tragic situation would end. Continue reading

What Was Said Inside Satmar About Yisroel Moshe Weingarten

This post first appeared in Frum Follies 0n December 7, 2010. I am reposting it because Yisroel Moshe Weingarten is back in the news. His son Yoel Weingarten gave an interview to Canadian TV news defending Lev Tahor from charges of child abuse just as he defended his father in the past (e.g., last video clip in Failed Messiah post from shortly after his father’s arrest).

However, the fact is that even inside Satmar, Weingarten’s father was known as a notorious sexual abuser of his oldest daughter, Leah, and a manipulator. The document below predates the arrest by several years and was written to a beit din looking into supporting two of his children and his ex-wife who planned to testify against  Weingarten in  civil courts to try and get Weingarten’s other six children out of his custody because he was molesting them. They lost the custody battle in spite of the support of prominent Monsey Hasidic rabbis. Eventually, criminal charges were brought to the FBI and Weingarten was convicted and is now serving a 30-year sentence.

A Tale Of Three Rabbis Accused of Sex Abuse

IsraelNews, December 15, 2009

Rabbi Yudi Jacobson, a resident of an ultra orthodox West Bank settlement was accused of sexual misconduct and breach of contract by a pregnant woman alleged to be a part-time prostitute. He shocked everyone in his influential West Bank community when he said “She is more in the right than me.” He discontinued his relationship with her but acknowledged paternity of her children and financially supports them. He rejected a lawyer’s suggestion that he defend himself by pointing out that she had deceived him about her identity when he met her at a regional event. Continue reading

Rebbe Inflation and Moral Deflation: The New Rules Of Inheritance

FROM THE FRUM FOLLIES ARCHIVES: This was first posted on Nov 19, 2009 but feels timely with the latest outbreak of acrimony in Israel where the followers of R. Shteinman are having it out with the followers of Rabbi Auerbach over who rules the Litvish roost. There have been assaults and all other sorts of nastiness.

This generation is zocheh (privileged) to have many tzadikim (saintly rabbis) thanks to rebbe inflation. Once upon a time tzaddik had a son who became the rebbe and he might be recognized as a tzadik. But now our rebbes have many children and son-in-laws. They all become rebbes and they are all tzadikim. Korach got it wrong. He should have asked “For are we not all Rebbes?” Continue reading
