Williamsburg has lead poisoning levels higher than Flint, MI

lead-poisoning-blog-imageCenters for Disease Control data based on testing blood levels were obtained by the Reuters news service. According to Haaretz, Williamsburg had some of the highest levels in the country.

Lead poisoning is especially harmful to the mental development of younger children, something of special concern in Hasidic Williamsburg with its many young children.

It is not clear if the lead is coming from the water supply or the housing.

We can only hope there will be vigorous action to fix this problem, whatever the source.

  1. It has to be the housing or the feeds from the mains to the housing. It’s the same city water there as elsewhere; nothing special. NYC has an excellent water supply by most standards.

    • it can also be the mains for Williamsburg. pretty much anything downstream from the water going to other neighborhoods which don’t have lead problems. Or could be housing unrelated to H2O
